The magic of green screen filming

Have you ever been watching a video and wondered… how do they do that? Maybe someone is falling from a building? A car is floating in the air? Or a human is running on water? It’s all usually done in a green screen studio, this may baffle some, but I’m going to try deciphering it in around 400 words and a few videos… It’s how they do the weather!

What it is?

It literally is just a green screen. Simple as that. It’s a tool that is used to change your surroundings. When they filmed that car is mid-air for the cinema they just put a car in the green screen studio and then added the sky in the edit suite, editing out the colour green. It can be a painted wall, piece of fabric or other material – as long as it is all painted in the same shade of green it will work.

Why green?

Look at your current clothes? Anything green? Probably not. It has been proven that generally green is the least popular colour of clothing, imagine wearing a green top in a green screen, it would look like you have no body in the video! You can use any colour though, blue, black, red, purple and so on. The colour is then completely removed in the editing process to be replaced by the content you want.

Reel Film is a green screen equipped video production company. We have worked with schools, marketing films and performing arts academies producing video content using the green screen tool.
